Each year countless visitors flock to the Hawaiian Islands in order to have the vacation of a lifetime. With beautiful beaches, breathtaking scenery, warm weather year round and a vibrant culture, there is no denying that a trip to Hawaii is one that will be remembered forever. Many visitors struggle with deciding which of the Hawaiian Islands to visit on their trips. Although all are truly spectacular, they are unique and will each appeal to a different crowd. Here are the most popular Hawaiian Islands and what you can expect on a vacation to each.

Oahu: Although this is not the largest island in the chain, it is by far the most popular. Most cheap flights to Hawaii will land at the Honolulu International Airport, making it the first destination for many visitors from around the world. The biggest attractions on the island of Oahu are the beaches, including the massive and often crowded Waikiki Beach, as well as the historical landmarks such as the USS Arizona National Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Honolulu is the capital of the state as well as the largest city, and it is where locals and visitors will find the greatest concentration of high end shopping and dining opportunities as well as luxury resorts.

The Big Island: Although officially named the Island of Hawaii, this island is commonly referred to simply as the Big Island due to its comparatively large size in the chain. Although it is significantly bigger than the surrounding islands, it is home to a much smaller population. The major attractions on the island are scenic in nature, including the most active volcano on Earth and one of the tallest mountains in the world. Visitors can experience everything from hot sandy beaches to snowy mountain peaks, lush rainforests and even dry plains all on this one spectacular Hawaiian Island.

Maui: After the Big Island, Maui is the largest in the island chain. Many visitors believe that Maui has the best of both worlds, with both modern amenities, luxurious resorts and a spacious landscape. Many of the older heritage sites and villages are still populated, including the whaling port of Lahaina, the plantation town of Haiku and the colonial buildings found in Wailuku. As is the case with every Hawaiian Island, Maui boasts a number of attractive beaches and water sports opportunities, including snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and surfing.

Visitors to Hawaii can truly have it all while visiting the islands. Whether you choose the more modern and touristy capital city of Honolulu, the relaxed and isolated beaches on the Big Island or the charming traditional towns of Maui, you are bound to have a vacation that won’t soon be forgotten.

The Pacific Jewel is an awesome cruise ship embarking from the port of Sydney in Australia and owned by P&O Australia, which is able to accommodate 1,950 in 832 cabins. An ocean cruise continues to be considered the ultimate vacation experience by many people. This beautiful cruise ship features a health and fitness center which spans two decks including 1,300 square meters. Eleven treatment rooms offer a view of the ocean, and the center also features a salon and a thermal suite. Keeping yourself fit while cruising could be a challenge considering the five eateries available, including an incredible chocolate cafe.

On board entertainment includes a “Run Away to the Circus” production show featuring life sized elephant puppets. Passenger reviews included positive comments on the talented crew and the great entertainment they provided. There is also a trapeze arena on the top deck, dance lessons, trivia and bingo games available for the personal enjoyment of guests.

Reviews from first time cruisers were about 90 percent positive, with rave reviews of food and accommodations. Luxury cabins feature great hospitality service, comfort and even a refrigerator for passenger convenience. Storage space was considered to be more than adequate, making a stay of seven or eight days comfortable. One negative comment concerned a limited laundry facility to serve more than 1,900 guests.

The P&O Cruise line is popular with families as it sometimes offers specials for children under 12 years cruising free in a cabin with two adults. The line also offers kids’ clubs with childcare workers and qualified teachers, and is well known for a family friendly atmosphere. The average age of passengers is 42 resulting in a younger crowd than most American or British lines. Approximately one third of the passengers are younger than 29 and only 20 percent are over 60.

Shorter cruises of three days are available and reviews were mostly positive about them too. One comment about the shorter cruise concerned the absence of communication from the captain. This was not really a complaint but an observation.

If you are thinking of choosing a cruise for your next vacation, the Pacific Jewel has many advantages and positive reviews. Check with a travel agent to find current special offers featuring cruises from three days up to two weeks in length. Most people opt for a cruise of about one week in length as that choice offers the best value for cost. Whatever your choice, a cruise ship vacation will be an event to remember for years.

Every year I try to be original in my plans to choose the perfect vacation for my family and myself, and this year would turn out to be better than the rest. This year I decided to find the best and settled on a luxurious resort on the Gulf coast. After doing a little research I determined that the Hope Island resort, located Just south of Brisbane would be ideal for all of us to enjoy.

As we checked in through guest facilities, I could not help but observe the professional and yet friendly manner that the staff portrayed to us. We were given the VIP treatment and shown to a suite that would impress even the pickiest of guests. Although we knew ahead of time that this facility would compare to many five star hotels, the fact that the kitchenette had all the latest appliances would definitely be a plus to us.

It was relatively late after checking in, so any plans to see the sights would have to wait until the next day. After a hearty breakfast at one of the local eateries it was all about getting in a round of golf before the weather got too hot. While my son and myself headed to accomplish our first nine holes, my wife and daughter headed for the nearby shopping centre to see what the locals were offering.

This vacation was to be a little more elaborate than usual, especially since it was our 14 year anniversary. Although we had the ability to cook at the resort, tonight it was all about choosing the right place to have dinner and with so many options available, it could take awhile. We finally agreed on an award winning seafood restaurant which did not disappoint, especially after we advised them about what our special celebrating.

After dinner, we dropped the kids back to the resort and decided to head for some private time to mark the occasion. Even though we were on vacation, getting a workout was important to us, so we made arrangements the next day for our kids to hang out at the beach lagoon pool, as we headed for the Gymnasium. After our workout and some time in the steam room, we were ready for anything the evening had to offer.

The week went by quickly and before we knew it, it was time to prepare ourself for our return home. Needless to say, the entire family had a great time at the Hope Island resort, in fact we had so much fun that we were already thinking ahead to our next vacation. I guess it won’t be difficult to persuade this bunch to return, especially since I already booked again for next year.

Business Trips to Melbourne
Many years ago I made trips to Melbourne Australia. On my first visits I was not happy with the hotels Melbourne had available. After two trips I stayed in a new hotel. It was the Hyatt on Collins. If the Internet had existed at that time I would have been quite happy to look up www.punthill.com.au and let one of their excellent apartment hotels. Looking at their website I believe my choice would have been at Flinders Lane. That would have saved me money, as the Hyatt was certainly not inexpensive, although it is a really great hotel.

Driving in Melbourne
Melbourne is one amazing city. There is one complaint that I have, which you may find rather amusing. Being an American I am used to driving on the right side of the street. However, no worries, my Aussie friends told me to just remember and keep the center line next to me at all times, especially when turning.

Okay, fair enough but the problem is, that advice almost got me killed on the streets of Melbourne. In any other country in the world, that I have been in, if you want to turn across traffic, to either the left or right – depending on what side of the street they drive on in that country – you approach the traffic light, wait for the light to be green and then cautiously make your turn. That is not how to make a turn in Melbourne.

In Melbourne you come to the intersection and rather than waiting in the right lane to turn, you pull to the far left lane and stop. Then when the light turns red you pull out and turn to the right across all lanes of traffic. Well I did it the way I was used to. To my total shock, as I turned the back end of my car was struck by a Melbourne trolley bearing down the tracks inlaid in the center of the street. Obviously, I survived and gave the rental company a piece of my mind for not having any warning notices about such a significant difference in traffic rules for the benefit of visitors.

Hotels Melbourne Style
Later that night the young lady who represented our company in Melbourne showed me many great sites of Melbourne. We had fish and chips near the port and ate Greek specialties in the food court at the Hyatt on Collins. We spent one entire evening enjoying a half bottle of amazing Port wine in a coffee house near the Hyatt. I went back many times and enjoyed the food and friendly people of Melbourne every time.

Whenever you go on holiday it is tempting to forget about spending out on your holiday insurance. Most people who are heading out on holiday these days have scraped the money together to be able to afford to go at all, so having to spend another handful of money on something that you might not even need can be quite difficult at times, but you do unfortunately have to consider the worst that could happen, and when you do that, you soon realise that it is vitally important that you have a good travel insurance policy before you travel.

If anything happens to you when you are abroad, then you are likely to have to get medical treatment. You may be covered by our own NHS services despite being abroad, but you won’t be able to get prescriptions, and you will also have to pay for your transport to the hospital to, which can obviously cost you a fortune depending on where you are.

There’s no sense in leaving all of this to fate when you can get some great travel insurance policies on the net. The best approach is simply to search for cheap travel insurance and you should come up with some great options. Just make sure you choose a company with a good name and a good reputation, because the last thing you want is to be in a position where you have to call upon your policy, only to find out that the company you have insured through are less than reliable.

If you want to visit Australia, you may feel that you have to save up an enormous amount of money, but it has to be said that you don’t always need a bucketful of money to be able to get to the other side of the world.

If you look online you should be able to save money on every aspect of your trip down under. Firstly of all, if you search for accommodation you should be able to find some affordable places in Australia that are right up your alley. You obviously need to search specifically for the place where you want to stay, but if you search for something like budget accommodation in Brisbane if that happens to be where you are staying, you should be able to find something that you can afford.

The same applies to finding the cheapest flights. If you go online and search for cheap flights, you will find them, and again, it is all about searching for the flights you want. As well as this though, you can do yourself a big favour by finding a company that is able to offer great deals time after time so that you can be confident that you are getting a great deal when you book through them. A good company that always has great deals is Cheapflights, which is easy to find online. If you are going to Australia though you will need to target that place on their site. All you need to look for is http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/Australia and you should go direct to all of their best offers for their destinations in Australia.
